Mason Morgan Carnegie Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year

Mason has been a member of the Carnegie Boys & Girls Club since he was 6 years

old – he is now 17.  He began his years with the Club in the sports programs – as a

player, volunteer, and currently a player/coach.

Mason is a well-rounded and accomplished young person with a stellar academicDSC_0040

record with a (4.0) and a full extra- curricular and volunteer resume.  Mason is a member

of the Honor Society, youth leader at his church, participates in mission trips, gifted

academic bowls, and has been a member of the Student Council.

Starting February of this year, Mason will begin an internship with UPMC Mercy. The

program is sponsored through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.  He will be shadowing

medical staff throughout the hospital in various departments.  Mason was one of 40

students chosen out of 200 applicants.  This could be the first step in Mason reaching

his goal to be an orthopedic doctor.

In the year 2012 Mason was the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania Dapper Dan

Athlete of the Year – he was captain for hockey and flag football, coached 2 hockey and

2 flag football teams and participated in Dapper Dan golf.  Currently Mason is coaching 1

hockey and 1 flag football team as well as playing flag football, hockey and basketball.

In the past year Mason has volunteered approximately 50 hours for the Club.  He has helped

In various areas including sports, after school and summer camp.

I have personally seen Mason’s growth in his position as outside program coordinator for

our summer camp program.  He has held this position for the past three years and has

grown each year in terms of responsibility and trust.  His confidence has grown

in helping the campers to have fun, learn new skills, play as a team and solve conflicts.

Mason epitomizes the characteristics of the Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year:  leadership,

positive attitude, importance of teamwork and always a true role model.  Mason is an

outstanding young individual who I am sure will succeed in whatever path he chooses.

Congratulation Mason keep up the good work 🙂
